On of these days maybe the weather man will get it right. Someone said it right when they called them aftercasters and not forecasters! After calling for rain basically all weekend which kept a number of racers home as well as spectators we encountered 1 shower late Saturday afternoon and that was it. Sunday was a great day for racing and we saw performance numbers to prove it! Again it proved to be a banner weekend for Mark Loveless who won the gamblers race on Saturday and followed that up with the Super Pro win on Sunday. The second time this season that Mark has doubled up.

There
were 2 outstanding runs made on Sunday, first Dave Powell Jr. in his Top
Sportsman Cougar ran his quickest time ever in Clarenville with a stout 7.118
second pass at 193.05 mph (all motor no power adders). Every bit as impressive
was the run Doug Strickland put down with his street legal ’67 Camaro (NOS
assisted sbc) shutting down the clocks with a 8.73 second pass at 155mph which
is the quickest et by a street legal car ever and getting close to the mph
record. With the Annual Street Car Shootout taking place at our next event
August 14th
and 15th
the line has been drawn in the sand. Will be very interesting to see who comes
out on top!
The next scheduled racing in Clarenville will be August 14th and 15th when we will be hosting our Annual Street Car Shootout.

It was certainly a
weekend of extremes with blistering heat on Saturday and steady rain on Sunday.
Due to the weather Sundays racing had to be cancelled, even more regrettable was
the fact that we had a great turnout from the All Ford Mustang Group. The All
Ford Mustang Show/Shine and Shootout will be rescheduled for a later date.
Saturdays racing was very competitive with the gamblers pot hitting $1,350. Additionally for this event it was a double knockout format until the semi finals. In the end after 7 hard rounds of racing Gerard Ronayne in his Nova come away with the win over Gord Anthony in his AMX. For Gord this was the only round he lost all day but it came at a most inopportune time.
The next scheduled racing in Clarenville will be July 31 / August 1st.
